Raqs Awn Belly Dance Collective was formed in the spring of 2009 by a group of women who love belly dance and value their
sisterhood. The name Raqs Awn comes from the Arabic words Raqs ("dance") and Awn ("to help or assist") reflect their goal of
charitable giving through belly dance. Their motto is "We dance from the belly, and we give from the heart." The women of this
collective dance in many different styles, including American Cabaret, Egyptian, Turkish, Lebanese, Bollywood, Gypsy/Folkloric,
and Tribal Fusion, and enjoy experimenting with new techniques. They have performed at several local public events, such as
Earth Day Omaha, World Belly Dance Day, Benson Days, Nebraska Ren Faire, as well as private performances for birthdays
and other celebrations. Raqs Awn hopes that as they dance "from the belly", they will inspire others to "give from the heart".
